TOOTH WHITENING OR BLEACHING - WHAT IS IT?
Tooth enamel is a porous substance made of crystals. Over the years, color molecules from food get imbedded in the pores, darkening the tooth. During whitening (or bleaching), a gel containing hydrogen peroxide is applied onto the tooth. This soaks into the tooth surface and changes the incorporated color molecules so that they become invisible. As a result, the teeth become whiter again.
How does tooth whitening work?
1
Cleaning -the foundation for white teeth
Before starting a tooth whitening treatment, it's essential to prepare the teeth. This involves professional cleaning by a specialist to remove external discoloration caused by food residues, tobacco or tartar. This cleaning ensures that teeth are clean and ready for treatment. In addition, it's crucial to check for any underlying dental disease, such as cavities, gum inflammation or dental hypersensitivity. If a problem is detected, it must be treated before whitening.

There are different methods
a) Home whitening This method involves the use of customized “trays” made by a dentist. These trays are filled with whitening gel, then worn overnight over a period of approximately one week. This technique is gentle and allows gradual penetration of the product, delivering long-lasting, effective whitening. b) In-office bleaching For faster results, whitening can be carried out directly in the dentist's office. This method uses a more powerful whitening gel, applied to the teeth for around an hour. The treatment is supervised by a professional, guaranteeing maximum effectiveness while limiting the risk of irritation or tooth sensitivity.

Choosing the right method for you
Every patient has specific needs when it comes to teeth whitening. That's why a consultation with a dentist is essential. During this session, we'll assess your oral health, discuss your aesthetic goals, and recommend the most suitable method. The dentist will also explain the chosen treatment procedure and answer any questions you may have, so that you can feel confident throughout the process.

IS BLEACHING DANGEROUS FOR MY TEETH?
The short answer: No!
Contrary to many rumors, teeth whitening is a very safe treatment. No matter what method is used, at home or in the office.
Problems usually occur when whitening is performed by unqualified personnel, without prior examination of teeth, gums, etc. Or when products are used that are not suitable. They can be too weak or too aggressive. If all the rules are followed, teeth whitening can easily achieve a very nice aesthetic improvement, and without harming your teeth.
The most common side effect is tooth sensitivity to cold. But this is only temporary for a few days.

Excellent advice from Doctor Engelhardt who intervenes with perfect care, and very good care from the hygienist who allows a better condition of the dental system. I suffered from gum pain which has completely disappeared. And very warm welcome at the office! Thank you Doctor and to your professional entourage.

From my first phone call to make an appointment, I was greeted with a warm welcome.
I never felt judged, quite the contrary. I really felt accompanied, encouraged and, above all, understood.
Everyone I met was absolutely wonderful.
The kindness, sympathy and gentleness of all the staff at this practice really gave me confidence and enabled me to overcome my fear, so that I could finally look after my teeth.
