Periodontics: gum care
Periodontics treats diseases affecting the gums and the bone supporting the teeth. These inflammations often progress painlessly at first, but can lead to tooth loosening or tooth loss if left untreated.
The earlier we intervene, the easier it is to stabilise the situation.
Warning signs to watch for
- Bleeding when brushing
- Persistent bad breath
- Red, swollen or sensitive gums
- Gum recession
- Looseness of one or more teeth
- Sensitivity to cold
- Unpleasant taste in the mouth
If you are unsure about your situation, we can check the condition of your gums during a quick and simple assessment.

Where does periodontal disease come from?
Periodontitis is caused by the accumulation of bacteria beneath the gums. Without regular cleaning, these bacteria cause inflammation that progressively destroys the attachment of the tooth to the bone.
Aggravating factors:
- smoking
- stress
- genetics
- diabetes
- insufficient oral hygiene
Why is prompt treatment important?
The more periodontitis progresses, the more bone is lost, and the harder it becomes to stabilise the tooth.
Early treatment often makes it possible to avoid more extensive procedures and to preserve all your teeth.
What you can do to prevent periodontitis
- Rigorous oral hygiene
- Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes with fluoride toothpaste.
- Use dental floss or interdental brushes once a day to clean hard-to-reach areas.
- Balanced diet
- Limit sugar and acidic foods, which promote cavities and inflammation.
- Favour foods rich in calcium and vitamins (particularly vitamin C) to strengthen teeth and gums.
- Regular visits to the practice
- Have a check-up every six months to detect problems early.
- Professional scaling removes tartar and helps prevent gingivitis.
Dental aesthetics through gum grafting
Periodontists also specialise in dental aesthetics through gum grafting (“pink aesthetics”) and dental implants.
What our patients say
I am extremely grateful for the care I received. Having a genuine phobia of the dentist, I was dreading the appointment, but my dentist put me at ease from the very first minutes, as she always does. Her gentleness, attentiveness and professionalism are rare and precious. Thanks to her, I was able to undergo treatment with complete peace of mind. She is a true gem in her field!
My experience was extremely positive, and I would like to give special thanks to Mrs Dal Zotto. She reassured me with her kindness and gentleness, which truly transformed my perception of dentists.
My 9-year-old daughter was seen by the hygienist Yasmina. She is very gentle, takes her time with children and gives helpful advice. I recommend her 100%. She does a wonderful job.
